Samuel N. Rhoads of Haddonfield, NJ was a man who had a lot of energy and intense interest in many different things: he loved birds, books and big adventures! As a boy in the 1870s, he loved to be outdoors where he could explore the woods and streams and study the birds and animals of his hometown. As an adult, he continued to explore the world as a naturalist who traveled to places where few scientists had gone before, collecting specimens for the Academy of Natural Sciences in Philadelphia. Samuel owned a bookstore in Philadelphia that sold rare books about the natural sciences, history, and early Quakers. Samuel fought to preserve open space, parks, and historic places so that they would still be there for YOU, the children of the future!
